Aston Villa make contact for Roma’s Matias Soule, financial situation key | OneFootball

Serie A side Roma find themselves in a bit of a financial mess. This is largely due to Financial Fairplay reasons, which are forcing them to execute major sales by the end of June.

Evan Ndicka, Manu Kone and Mile Svilar are players whose exits can grant them that. But it now seems like Matias Soule’s future is also increasingly in doubt.

Il Messaggero – via TMW, report that Aston Villa are interested in the Argentine, with Bournemouth, Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart also in the chase. But the Villans have made initial contacts, potentially to lay down the foundations of a future move.

They haven’t spoken to Roma sporting director Ricky Massara but Unai Emery is believed to be keen on the ex-Juventus man. A fee of €30 million can prove enough to sign the 23-year-old too.

Roma’s troubles can help in move

Failure to qualify for the Champions League would low-key be a disaster for Roma. This will make them desperate for sales, especially since Gian Piero Gasperini is keen on having very specific players next season.

This can make Soule’s sale unavoidable. He has contributed to over ten goals in each of the last three seasons in Serie A but is also ready for the next step. Roma’s struggles and lack of stability haven’t allowed them, so far.

Gasperini’s stay can help that but the chaos at the club means that there is always a dip that imapcts the players. Aston Villa, as a result, might not be a bad destination, where Emery usually brings the best out of every signing.
