Aston Villa push to seal club-record deal for Johan Manzambi | OneFootball

Aston Villa are pushing to finalise a club-record move worth nearly £60million for Johan Manzambi after stepping in on his proposed transfer to Newcastle. According to ExpressAndStar.com, talks with Freiburg intensified over the weekend.

The 20-year-old Switzerland international had appeared set for the Magpies after they agreed a £49m fee with the German club, but he had not yet approved the switch.

Manzambi is now on course to join Villa as Unai Emery moves into the market following Amadou Onana’s World Cup injury. The 24-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and is expected to miss most of the season.

If completed, the package with add-ons would surpass the £50m Villa paid Everton to sign Onana two years ago.

Manzambi faced Villa in May’s Europa League final and ended the campaign with seven goals in 47 appearances. He also impressed for Switzerland at the World Cup before missing their last two matches with a minor knee injury.
