Aston Villa are set to sign Victor Lindelof on a free transfer. Lindelof has been without a club since leaving Manchester United when his contract expired this summer.
The Swedish centre-back has been assessing his options, with Fiorentina and Everton among the clubs to have approached the 31-year-old.
Aston Villa now look set to win the race with Lindelof undergoing a medical with the club. According to Fabrizio Romano, Lindelof is set to sign an initial two-year deal at Villa Park with the option to extend for a further season.
Unai Emery views the defender as a low-cost option to add depth to his squad, as Villa face another campaign of European football. Villa had been keen to add another centre-back after Axel Disasi’s loan from Chelsea was not extended and Lindelof will provide a Premier League proven option.
Lindelof spent eight seasons at Manchester United after joining from Benfica in a £30m deal in 2017. He made 284 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils, scoring four times, and won both the FA Cup and League Cup during his time at Old Trafford.
