Despite finishing top of Group E, Germany have received their fair share of criticism for their performances at the World Cup.

Most recently, England legend Gary Lineker told L’Équipe that he believes this is “one of the weakest” Germany sides he has ever seen, and that France will reach the quarter-finals “without any trouble” if they face Julian Nagelsmann’s team in the round of 16.

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz was asked about Lineker’s comments at a press conference ahead of Germany’s Round of 32 clash with Paraguay and said he is not paying much attention to outside opinions.

"Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I didn't even notice it myself," Havertz, adding:

"Of course, during a tournament a lot of people start talking about you. But I don't think anyone in the squad pays much attention to it."

The 27-year-old also pointed out that there are already plenty of pundits within Germany sharing their views on the team’s performances.

"We already have plenty of experts in our own country – if people in other countries start as well, at some point it's enough," Havertz said.

“It's always easy to criticise us from the outside. But it honestly doesn't interest me at all,” he underlined.
