Honest Ahanor – N/AAtalanta slumped to a dreadful 4-0 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain at the start of their 2025/26 Champions League campaign. In all fairness, Ivan Juric’s side could’ve easily conceded seven had Bradley Barcola been more composed in front of goal.

PSG got their title-defending season off to a flying start. Only four minutes into the game, Marquinhos pounced on Fabian Ruiz’s assist to open the scoring. Former Serie A stars put Atalanta to the sword in the first half.

After the ex-Roma and Napoli players combined for the opening goal, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored a superb solo goal at the tail-end of the first half to double Les Parisiens’ lead. Luis Enrique’s side could’ve entered the halftime break three goals up, yet Barcola failed to convert a penalty.

Marco Carnesecchi read the French forward like a book and made a comfortable save. Indeed, the Italian goalkeeper was a rare shining light in an otherwise disjointed Atalanta side. However, Nuno Mendes found a way to beat him from an acute angle six minutes into the second half, making it 3-0.

Goncalo Ramos made Atalanta pay for a sloppy build-up play at the back, putting the final score at 4-0 in stoppage time. Without further ado, let’s look at our Atalanta player ratings.

Atalanta (3-4-1-2)

Marco Carnesecchi – 7/10

Despite conceding four times, he was the only reason Atalanta left Paris with some pride. He made nine saves, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a heavy defeat.

Odilon Kossounou – 5/10

To put Atalanta’s disastrous night in perspective, he missed the visitors’ best chance of the game, skying the ball high from close range. Constantly outpaced by Barcola on the right side.

Isak Hien – 4/10

Though his approach did not lack aggressiveness and spirit, positioning often let the Swedish center-back down, allowing PSG’s lightning-fast frontline to catch him off guard multiple times.

Berat Djimsiti – 3/10

Like his defensive colleagues, the Albanian star struggled to cope with PSG’s pace. Frequently dominated by Kvaratskhelia, he always looked shaky in one-on-one situations.

Raoul Bellanova – 4/10

With Atalanta forced to defend for most of the match, the Italian wingback rarely had a chance to demonstrate his attacking prowess. His defensive shortcomings came to the fore.

Yunus Musah – 3/10

You will hardly see a more bizarre penalty than the one he gave away tonight. Though Carnessechi bailed him out, the USMNT midfielder looked up the creek without a paddle all night.

Marten de Roon – 6/10

The Dutch ace fared reasonably well off the ball, providing an additional layer of cover to his backline. However, he was near-anonymous in the build-up despite rarely giving away possession.

Lorenzo Bernasconi – 3/10

Juric gambled with the 21-year-old on the left wing, and it didn’t pay off. Instead, the Croatian manager allowed Kvaratskhelia to have a field day against the Champions League debutant.

Mario Pasalic – 5/10

Quiet on and off the ball, the versatile midfielder’s usual dynamism in transitions was missing. In his defense, he worked his socks off on both ends of the pitch.

Charles De Ketelaere – 6/10

The Belgian talisman was arguably Atalanta’s most creative player this evening, but he desperately lacked support from his teammates.

Daniele Maldini – 4/10

Failed to rise to the occasion and was unable to influence the attacking phases. His decision-making lacked precision, and he offered little threat going forward.

Substitutions

Lazar Samardzic – 5/10
