Manchester United have identified Atalanta star Ederson as a key target this summer but the Italian club have reportedly slapped down a new price tag of €75 million for the Brazilian international- far higher than previously expected.

Spanish journalist Eduardo Burgos (Diario AS) reveals Atlanta have increased their demands for their midfield “jewel” as a number of clubs across Europe are “closely monitoring” Ederson’s availability after an impressive season in Serie A.

Burgos contends Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are both interested in the 25-year-old powerhouse, while Juventus and Manchester City, along with United, are also keeping a close eye on developments.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person had previously suggested Pep Guardiola’s side were “ready to offer 50 million” for Ederson while a separate update revealed the Red Devils were prepared to table a bid worth as much as €60 million to win the race for the Brazilian.

But Burgos now reports the price has reached a staggering €75 million – likely to prove too costly for United’s limited finances this summer.

However, the Spanish journalist does reiterate Ederson “will leave Italy” at the end of the season and that the asking price is “negotiable”, offering hope a more favourable compromise can be reached with Atalanta.

Translated Tweet: “Atalanta puts a price on its jewel. Éderson will leave Italy this summer. His price is 75M € , but it is negotiable. Atlético Madrid is closely monitoring his situation. Mind you, they’re not alone: Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, and Real Madrid.”

United’s midfield unit needs reinforcements to help head coach Ruben Amorim continue his overhaul at Old Trafford after a dismal season for the Mancunian club.

Christian Eriksen is set to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season while Casemiro remains a player United executives are keen to shift, despite his recent upturn in performances under Amorim.

The Portuguese coach remains unconvinced by Kobbie Mainoo’s suitability to a midfield pivot in his 3-4-2-1 system while Bruno Fernandes remains a victim of his own versatility as the 30-year-old captain continues to be shifted between midfield and the forward line.

Ederson has proven a revelatory figure at the heart of Atalanta’s side this season in the exact same tactical set-up Amorim utilises.

Gian Gasperini’s side are currently third in Serie A, ahead of ‘bigger’ clubs like Juventus, AC Milan and Roma, with Champions League qualification next year an increasing certainty. Only Inter Milan (2nd place) have scored more goals than Atalanta and only Napoli (1st place) have conceded fewer in the league.

Ederson’s performances as an all-action midfielder, capable of affecting the game in either box with his unrelenting work-rate and underrated quality on the ball, have been essential to his side’s impressive campaign.

It makes sense, therefore, with a host of Europe’s elite circling in the background, for La Dea to set a new price for their prized asset. But there will be hope at Old Trafford that a cheaper deal be struck with strong relations between the two clubs after previous moves for Rasmus Hojlund and Amad in the past.
