Athletico Paranaense ‘have resumed’ talks with Corinthians over 26-year-old centre-back Cacá, with any departure dependent on coach Dorival Júnior’s approval. Os Donos da Bola reports that discussions are back on.

An initial approach in early January stalled after his display in a 3-0 defeat to Red Bull Bragantino in Paulista round two, and due to an abdominal injury.

Corinthians have five senior centre-backs, with Cacá competing with João Pedro Tchoca. Iago Machado, 16, is training with the group, while Renato remains apart and available for transfer.

Tchoca’s aborted move to Torino, which included an obligation to buy, was cancelled, and his return could further limit Cacá. He fell out of favour after conceding a penalty in a 1-1 draw at Internacional in October 2025.

Corinthians agreed a $2 million permanent deal for Cacá in December 2024 after his Tokushima Vortis loan clause triggered at 2,200 minutes, but the fee remains unpaid. The club hold 60% of his rights, he is contracted until December 2028 and has a R$ 300 million domestic release clause.

Athletico president Osmar Stabile has also pointed to an outstanding sum of about R$ 13 million from Alex Santana’s 2024 move. “We have a debt to Athletico Paranaense relating to Alex Santana that has not been paid. We need to align everything to see if there is a possibility,” he told Alambrado Alvinegro.
