Atlético de Madrid have rejected a formal 150 million euro offer from Real Madrid for Julián Álvarez, instead pointing to the striker’s release clause.
Real Madrid, chaired by Florentino Pérez, said in a statement that the proposal followed a board meeting and concerned the Argentine forward’s registration rights.
Atlético thanked their city rivals for the interest and noted strong institutional ties between the clubs, but declined the approach and referred to the clause of the World Cup winner with Argentina. The stance underlined Diego Simeone’s intention to keep a leading player next season.
Such a fee would have been historic in the Spanish transfer market, underlining Álvarez’s standing since his arrival at Atlético.
With the bid turned down, any further pursuit now depends on a more complex negotiation or payment of the full amount set out in his contract.
