Arsenal’s stunning victory has been marred by the behaviour of some Atletico Madrid fans
UEFA have fined Atletico Madrid €30,000 (£26,249) and handed down a suspended one-match ban for travelling fans due to the "racist and discriminatory" behaviour of some supporters during last month's 4-0 Champions League loss to Arsenal.
The two teams met for the first time ever in the Champions League on October 21 at the Emirates Stadium with the Gunners avenging the Europa League semi-final defeat during the 2017-18 campaign.
After a goalless first half, Gabriel Magalhaes broke the deadlock shortly before the hour mark as he headed home Declan Rice’s free-kick.
Then came three goals in a ruthless six minute spell from the hosts as Gabriel Martinelli doubled the lead before Viktor Gyokeres ended his drought with a brace.
However, the game has since been overshadowed by the behaviour of some Atletico Madrid fans inside the ground.
As per ESPN, UEFA have revealed the charge against Atletico relates to monkey gestures and noises and Nazi salutes by the Spanish club's supporters at the Emirates Stadium in London.
Furthermore, European football’s governing body have fined the Spanish club an additional €10,000 (£8,749) after some of their fans threw objects during the game at Arsenal's Emirates stadium.
Though, the ban on selling tickets to supporters for an away match has been suspended for a probationary period of one year.
Atletico return to Champions League action at Dutch side PSV Eindhoven on December 10. They are 12th in the table with nine points from five games after recording wins over Union Saint-Gilloise and Inter Milan since losing to Arsenal.
The Gunners, meanwhile, lead the way in the league phase with a 100 per cent winning record after beating Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
