Atletico Madrid open talks over Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes

Atletico Madrid are targeting a summer move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes and are showing the strongest interest so far, opening talks via intermediaries, according to ExpressAndStar.com.

With Wolves heading for the Championship, the 25-year-old is expected to leave Molineux and is believed to have several suitors.

The La Liga club explored a deal in January but could not get it over the line. They are now stepping up their interest at the outset of what is likely to be a busy window at Molineux.

Atletico are Champions League semi-finalists and are due to face Arsenal next week.

Gomes has made 126 appearances for Wolves since joining from Flamengo in January 2023, a protracted transfer that saw fans push a #FreeJoaoGomes campaign online.
