Atlético Madrid are lining up options in case Julián Álvarez departs, with TEAMtalk reporting Mateu Alemany’s department has focused on Mason Greenwood as the leading candidate to bolster the attack if that exit happens.
The forward, now at Marseille, has been one of Ligue 1’s standouts this season. His finishing and versatility have impressed Atlético, who have tracked him for months and compiled detailed reports.
Club figures at the Metropolitano believe his profile fits the system, citing mobility and capacity to take on different roles. Progress in France has strengthened the view that he is ready for a competitive European project.
Álvarez’s future remains uncertain, with Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea interested. That market pressure has prompted Atlético to prepare a reliable replacement.
La Gazzetta dello Sport adds that Juventus are also monitoring Greenwood with a view to 2026/27. Clubs from Saudi Arabia have entered the race, which could drive up the fee and complicate talks for European sides.
Marseille, owned by Frank McCourt, are not expected to make a sale easy. The French club paid more than €30 million and could now demand close to €50 million.
Manchester United retain 50% of any future sale, adding another layer to negotiations. Greenwood is under contract until 2029 and is among the most sought after names for the next window.
