Atletico Madrid team news

First-choice goalkeeper Jan Oblak remains a doubt after suffering knee discomfort during the international break with Slovenia. The Slovenian shot-stopper missed the Champions League victory over Inter Milan in midweek, with Juan Musso impressing in his absence.

Marcos Llorente might miss the game again after suffering a thigh injury during the 1-0 win at Getafe last weekend. The club confirmed: “Marcos Llorente suffers a muscle injury in his thigh, diagnosed by the club’s medical services after tests were carried out on our player, who had to leave the match against Getafe just 14 minutes after kickoff.”

Centre-back Robin Le Normand continues his extended spell on the sidelines with a significant knee injury sustained in the Champions League win over Union Saint-Gilloise earlier this month. The Spain international could miss the remainder of 2025.

Real Oviedo team news

David Carmo is in doubt due to a virus, but it seems he has fully recovered now. Ovie Ejaria is also listed as doubtful with a hamstring concern. Moroccan forward Ilyas Chaira serves a suspension and will not feature in this clash after he was shown a red card in their goalless draw last week.

40-year-old club legend Santi Cazorla, who was instrumental in securing promotion last term, continues to feature for Los Azules, making this a remarkable chapter in an extraordinary career. Venezuelan striker Salomón Rondón, on loan from Pachuca, who has managed just two league goals this campaign, is set to retain his place.

There are no new injury concerns other than the one already present in the squad. The fitness updates of the players are to be shared after the pre-match press conference.

Form

Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone’s men are in outstanding form, having won their last five La Liga matches against Osasuna, Real Betis, Sevilla, Levante and Getafe.

Their campaign hit its peak in midweek when captain José María Giménez headed home Antoine Griezmann’s corner in the 93rd minute to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Real Oviedo

The visitors are enduring a nightmare return to La Liga following their promotion via the playoffs last season.

Oviedo are winless in seven matches across all competitions and have not won in the league since late September. With just nine points from 13 games, they sit rock-bottom of the table and have scored only seven goals all season – the worst attacking record in the division.

Predicted lineups

Atletico Madrid: Musso; Molina, Gimenez, Hancko, Ruggeri; Simeone, Barrios, Koke, Gonzalez; Alvarez, Baena.

Real Oviedo: Escandell; Vidal, Costas, Calvo, Lopez; Colombatto, Dendoncker; Vinas, Agudin, Cazorla; Rondon.
