According to a report from Fichajes, Atletico Madrid have set their sights on Ferland Mendy, who could soon be heading for the exit door at Real Madrid. 

The French left-back, whose future at the Santiago Bernabeu remains uncertain, has now emerged as a potential target for Diego Simeone’s side as they prepare for a key rebuild phase.

The report reveals that Atletico Madrid are currently going through a period of internal evaluation after identifying issues related to discipline and commitment within their dressing room. 

Simeone, for that matter, has made it clear that any new recruits must align with his philosophy of total dedication and defensive sacrifice. 

Within this framework, Mendy has surfaced as a player capable of bringing balance both on and off the pitch.

Although Mendy’s time at Real Madrid has been affected by injuries and inconsistency, Atletico see him as a reliable, experienced option who could help reinforce their backline without breaking their budget.

Real Madrid, for their part, are understood to be open to listening to offers for the defender, especially now that they have two options, namely, Alvaro Carreras and Fran Garcia in their roster. 

Mendy’s current valuation reportedly fits within Atletico’s financial reach, which makes a potential deal realistic if both sides are willing to negotiate.

One key factor will be Mendy’s physical condition, as his recent injuries have limited his continuity in the team. 

However, Atletico Madrid are prepared to handle that risk, believing that the defender still has several strong seasons left if managed correctly.
