The brass at Atlético Madrid have forwarded a stern new message the way of La Liga rivals Barcelona this week.
As much of course comes fresh off Rojiblancos striker Julián Alvarez publicly announcing his intention to depart the club this summer.
Drawn on his future during an interview with ESPN (as cited by Fabrizio Romano) whilst on international duty at the World Cup, Alvarez admitted:
“I don’t want to hide or act like I don’t want to be clear. I try to be honest. I spoke to Atlético people and I think the best for everyone involved is for me to leave. I want to fulfil my dream.”
These comments have no doubt been taken as a green light on the part of those in the boardroom at Barcelona, who have earmarked the World Cup winner as their priority signing to replace Robert Lewandowski.
Safe to say, however, that the stance of the Atlético Madrid brass has not been at all affected by developments over the last 24 hours.
As per a statement sent the way of Diario AS by the Metropolitano brass on Tuesday:
“There is no amount of money for which Barça can buy Julián Álvarez. He will not be transferred to Barcelona. Either they pay the release clause for €500m or there is no deal.”
