Austria U17 captain becomes a Red Bull

Jakob Pokorny signs until 2028

The captain of Austria's highly successful U17 World Cup team is joining FC Red Bull Salzburg! Jakob Pokorny will be joining us from our partner club FC Liefering at the start of the upcoming season and has signed a contract until 30 June 2028.

Step by step to the top level

The 18-year-old from Carinthia came to Salzburg from his home region at the beginning of 2022. After playing for the Red Bull Academy's U16 and U18 teams, as well as our U19 UEFA Youth League team, the centre-back's path led him to FC Liefering, for whom he has made six appearances so far. Pokorny, who has recently been called-up Austria's U18 team, will continue to play in Liefering as a co-operation player to showcase his skills and contend for a spot in our team.

We are delighted to have signed another key part of the Austrian U17 World Cup team. While Jakob hasn't yet played many matches at the professional level, he has already demonstrated that he is a very mature player. The same applies to him as Johannes Moser - we know his qualities, but we will give him the necessary time to develop because it's important to find the right time, not the fastest possible one, for his next step.
