Ayrton Lucas passed a stern derby test, vindicating Filipe Luís' faith, and opens 2026 in a strong position at Flamengo after subduing Botafogo's main threat in the Carioca.

According to Globo.com, the decision to loan Viña to River Plate this window underlined the coach's reliance on the number six.

He is not merely Alex Sandro's understudy. In 2025 he featured in 39 of 79 games, starting 23, while the 35-year-old is on minutes management.

Filipe Luís, a left-back specialist who played alongside him in 2022 and 2023, ended his career behind Ayrton and kept him this season ahead of Viña.

Under Filipe he holds his position more and helps form a back three in build-up. Staff admire his habit of seeking feedback and he says he feels fully adapted.

This year he has three appearances, starting the 7-1 over Sampaio Corrêa and the 2-1 against Botafogo that sealed a Carioca semi. In the clássico he contained the quick Villalba and steadied the defence.

In October 2024 the coach hailed Ayrton's decisive Libertadores contribution and asked fans to back him. Flamengo visit Lanús on Thursday, with the left-back competing with Alex Sandro for a start at 21:30 Brasília time at La Fortaleza, Buenos Aires.
