Bahia on Corinthians U20 return, eyes away tie in youth Brasileirão

On Wednesday morning (25), Corinthians wrapped up their preparations for the second round of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship at CEFAC (Corinthians’ Center of Excellence in Athlete Development — youth training center). On Thursday afternoon (26), Timãozinho will face Bahia at CT Evaristo de Macedo, at 3:00 PM (Brasília time), aiming for their second win in the national tournament of the category.

It’s worth recalling that in the first round, the Filhos do Terrão hosted América-MG at Alfredo Schürig Stadium, Fazendinha, and won by a score of 4-0 last Saturday (21). In the last training session before facing the team from the Northeast, the activity was divided into two stages: the players started the session with a warm-up on the pitch and then worked on aspects such as positioning and ball distribution.

In an interview with Corinthians TV after the final training session, midfielder Luiz Gustavo Bahia, 19, who had been with the professional squad of the Alvinegro since mid-2025, commented on his return to the Under-20s, as he had seen little playing time with the main team — just four matches. He also spoke about his expectations for the game.

“Being here to help the team with my experience and what I have learned with the senior squad is always special. We have prepared well and are capable of achieving a great result, even away from home. We played a great match in the opener, and we have to show even more against Bahia, who have a very good team, play at home, with high temperatures and on synthetic turf. I am sure that if we go in focused and with a strong rhythm, we will play a great match,” he said.

Although he has had few opportunities so far with the professional squad, Bahia is considered a promising athlete, having been part of the Copa do Brasil (2025) and Supercopa do Brasil (2026) winning teams, against Vasco da Gama and Flamengo, respectively. In the Corinthians youth categories, he has played 80 matches for the Under-20s and 32 for the Under-17s, having scored 22 goals in total.

In 2024, he was part of the squad that won the Copinha against Cruzeiro in the final at Itaquera, being registered by coach Danilo Andrade. The previous year, he was champion of the São Paulo Under-17 Championship, in a final against São Paulo, at Fazendinha, Parque São Jorge.
