Leon Bailey’s time at Roma appears destined to end prematurely.
The Jamaican winger, who arrived this summer from Aston Villa, has never quite managed to integrate into Gian Piero Gasperini’s coaching project, hampered by a muscular weakness that has affected his performances.
According to Matteo De Santis of La Stampa in Manà Manà Sport, the player could represent a transfer opportunity for Fiorentina, who are seeking reinforcements to climb the league table after a disastrous start to the season.
Bailey’s experience in Rome is meager. The right rectus femoris muscle injury he sustained in August was just the beginning of an ordeal that has seen him sidelined for 103 days and missed 15 of 25 games.
With just one assist and zero goals, the 1997-born player is having one of the worst seasons of his career, threatening to surpass the record low of the 2021/22 season, when he sat out 153 days.
Roma, who have already invested in attacking talents such as Robinio Vaz and Donyell Malen, are now considering terminating the loan early. For Fiorentina, signing Bailey would be a gamble: the player’s talent is there, but his athleticism remains a major unknown.
