Folarin Balogun continued his outstanding run of form on Sunday as Monaco secured a 2-1 victory over Marseille to strengthen their push for a Champions League place.
The USMNT striker struck in the 74th minute with a superb chipped finish to seal Monaco’s seventh consecutive Ligue 1 win and extend their unbeaten league run to 10 matches. More notably, the goal ensured Balogun has now scored in six successive matches - the longest active scoring streak by any player across Europe’s top five leagues.
Only Kylian Mbappé has managed a longer run in the top five leagues this season, scoring in eight straight games earlier in the campaign.
Balogun’s strike against Marseille also took his tally to eight goals in his last eight appearances in all competitions and 16 for the season, underlining his importance to Monaco at a crucial stage of the campaign.
The result lifted Monaco level on points with Marseille and to within one point of third-placed Lille as the race for Champions League qualification intensifies - with Balogun’s red-hot form proving decisive.
