Former Flamengo president Eduardo Bandeira de Mello has ruled out ever working for rivals Vasco, citing his devotion to the Rubro-Negro.

"I have had approaches, I can even say so because they were public. One from Corinthians, another from Vasco da Gama. From candidates running for the presidency, but I have nothing against Flamengo supporters working at Corinthians, Vasco or Palmeiras, nor a Corinthians fan working at Flamengo," he told ESPN on Monday, 23 March.

"But, in my personal case, passion speaks louder. I publicly cut off those approaches. In my case, passion speaks louder than the professional."

Bandeira de Mello led Flamengo from 2013 to 2018, arriving with debts of almost R$ 800 million. He lifted only one national title, the 2013 Copa do Brasil.

Cost-cutting and repayments followed, then the club began signing stars. Paolo Guerrero joined in 2015, Diego Ribas the following season. His group did not win re-election, and Rodolfo Landim succeeded him.

He recalled approaches from Corinthians, Vasco and Palmeiras. Corinthians and Vasco are in serious financial crisis and rarely contend for national titles. Palmeiras, backed by Crefisa under Leila Pereira, have become a nouveau riche of Brazilian football.
