According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, backed a medal for Filipe Luís after the club clinched the Campeonato Carioca, addressing the coach’s recent dismissal.
Two leaked audio clips circulated during the week, and on Sunday he made his first public comments on the matter. He said he saw no problem with awarding a medal, though he was unsure how it would be arranged.
Bap wished Filipe Luís success and good luck, adding that his name sits among Flamengo’s great champions as both player and coach. He also said the recognition would be deserved, as was the title for the supporters.
Flamengo played 10 matches in the state competition. Filipe Luís led six, the first three were overseen by Bruno Pivetti with a largely under-20 side, and the final was handled by Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim.
In Jardim’s debut, Flamengo drew 0-0 with Fluminense then won on penalties. Fábio saved one for the runners-up, but Agustín Rossi denied Guga and Otávio to seal a third straight title.
