Flamengo president Bap has ruled out selling Plata despite a tense spell at the club, with the 25-year-old’s future under scrutiny during the FIFA window.
According to Globo.com, Cruzeiro have made an informal enquiry, but Bap said there is no intention to negotiate and that the football department will deal with the matter after the break.
On the eve of the trip to São Paulo, Plata only took part in the warm-up and did not train, his camp citing pain as two MRI scans showed no injury. He was then left out against Corinthians and publicly warned by Leonardo Jardim. Soon after, he deleted nearly all Flamengo photos, except the Libertadores title, and unfollowed the club on Instagram.
The forward joined Ecuador, started in the 1-1 draw with Morocco in Spain, and said being with the national team helps him forget what is happening around his club. He said he was happy to be involved.
Flamengo’s post celebrating internationals during the window omitted Plata. Despite uncertainty beyond the World Cup, he has a contract to 2029, and Bap wants director José Boto’s department to manage the situation. Under Jardim, Plata has featured twice in five matches, both late cameos, and must win more trust.
