Alexander Barboza, Palmeiras’s new signing, watched the World Cup final between Argentina and Spain at a bar in Mooca, São Paulo. Spain won 1-0.
According to Globo.com, the defender said a quick Google search for a quiet spot took him there, only to find it crammed with Argentina supporters. He went with his family and described the atmosphere as wild. He added that he watched the previous final in Buenos Aires.
Barboza was born in Argentina but recently became a naturalised Uruguayan to pursue call-ups with the Celeste. His mother is Argentine and his father Uruguayan.
He has yet to make his Palmeiras debut, which should come this week. He is likely to be in the squad to face Coritiba on Wednesday in the Brasileirão, with kick-off at 19:30 at Couto Pereira.
Palmeiras paid about R$ 20 million to Botafogo to sign Barboza. Abel Ferreira also has Gustavo Gómez, Benedetti, Bruno Fuchs and Murilo available in central defence.
