Just as FC Barcelona seemed to have finally found their European rhythm, a major setback has cast a shadow over their victory against Eintracht Frankfurt. Lamine Yamal, just 18 years old but already a key figure in Hansi Flick’s setup, will be suspended for the next Champions League match after picking up his third yellow card of the competition last night. In the 56th minute, a preventable foul earned him a crucial booking, the direct result of previous yellows against PSG and Club Brugge.
This absence couldn’t come at a worse time for Barcelona, who travel to Prague on January 21 to face Slavia in a do-or-die clash for their European survival. Still far from securing qualification, the Catalan giants are languishing in a worrying 14th place in a tightly contested and unforgiving group stage. Deprived of their most decisive player—8 goals and 10 assists in 17 matches across all competitions—Flick will be forced to reinvent his attacking setup.
