Barcelona are lining up a contract renewal for Hansi Flick to extend his stay at the club | OneFootball

Barcelona look set to move quickly to secure the long-term continuity of Hansi Flick, quick on the heels of Joan Laporta being officially re-elected as the club president until 2031.

According to SPORT, Barcelona are now working on a contract renewal that would extend Flick’s stay by an additional year, taking him through to June 2028.

The logic behind that is easy to understand. Flick is already under contract until 2027, after Barcelona officially renewed his deal last year following a hugely successful first season in charge.

During that campaign, he delivered major silverware and restored a sense of competitiveness, leading the club to a domestic treble and their best Champions League run in ages.

While Barcelona has been eager to extend the German coach’s contract, Flick has preferred a measured approach. He has emphasized that he wants to balance his professional ambitions with family life and has opted to renew year by year without rush.

The club respected this preference and postponed formal discussions until after the presidential elections. With Laporta’s new mandate confirmed, Barcelona has begun addressing this priority. Deco and Flick’s agent, Pini Zahavi, recently met in Barcelona for an informal discussion regarding the coach’s future.

Later, Flick met with Zahavi over lunch, reaffirming that his focus remains on the current season and that he prefers to take the process step by step.

From Barcelona’s point of view, the move makes complete sense. Flick has improved results, raised the level of several players, and given the team a much clearer identity. In many ways, it has to be said that the German tactician is over-performing with the resources that he has at his disposal.

Both the club and the coach share a positive sentiment, with no doubts about his long-term commitment, only a matter of timing. If all parties agree, an official announcement of the renewal could come sooner rather than later.
