Earlier this week, Barcelona confirmed that they would not be returning to the Spotify Camp Nou for Sunday’s match against Valencia, with the fixture now taking place at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. This was a big blow for the Catalans, whose goal had been to play every home match at their iconic stadium.
And there is every chance that the following weekend’s game against Getafe is also not possible at the Spotify Camp Nou, which would represent another significant blow for Barcelona – particularly from a financial perspective. If that were to happen, it would lower the chances of the club being able to play their league phase matches at home, which the alternative being a return to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic.
However, optimism has now grown about a return later this month, as per MD. They see a return to the Spotify Camp Nou for the match against Real Sociedad – scheduled for the 28th of September – as being feasible, which would be good timing as Barcelona play their first Champions League home match of the season against Paris Saint-Germain only days later.

According to the report, Barcelona officials have a lot of confidence in returning to the Spotify Camp Nou with phase 1A (27,000 seats) or even with phase 2A (45,000), with the latter ensuring that they would be able to make up some of the missing funds from the match against Valencia (and most likely Getafe too).
Time will tell whether Barcelona’s confidence is well-placed, but it is clear that there is a lot of desperation to ensure that everything is ready for that PSG fixture on the 1st of October. For now, work continues to be done, and it is possible that positive news comes regarding the Spotify Camp Nou before the week is out.
