Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick turned heads across the Spanish football landscape on Wednesday.
This came courtesy of a less-than-subtle jibe aimed in the direction of his side’s arch rivals, Real Madrid.
Barcelona are currently gearing up for a return to action tomorrow evening, when the Blaugrana are primed to lock horns with Atlético Madrid in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.
This marks the first occasion on which the reigning champions will face top-flight competition in this year’s Copa, after most recently besting Albacete last week.
For this reason, some have moved to diminish Barca’s achievement of advancing to the tournament’s final 4.
Speaking to the media during his pre-match press conference earlier today, the subject of such criticism was in turn put to Hansi Flick.
And the German tactician made use of the opportunity to take aim at the aforementioned Real Madrid, who themselves were sent packing by Albacete in the Copa’s Last-16.
Asked “what do you think of those who downplay the value of this trophy or try to strip some of its importance because no top-tier team has been faced yet this year?”, Flick responded with:
“Ask Real Madrid.”
