Barcelona sporting director Deco has provided an insight into the club’s latest plans for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.
Frontman Lewandowski, for his part, is due to see his contract terms with Barcelona expire in 2026.
The Pole recently turned 37, with widespread reports having in turn long assured that the plan of the Camp Nou brass was to allow ‘Lewa’ to depart as a free agent.
Lewandowski, though, is continuing to produce at an elite level, fresh off a brace off the bench against Valencia just last weekend.
Speaking to the media late this week, the possibility of the former Bayern Munich man being handed a new deal was in turn put to Deco once more.
And the Barcelona chief, during an interview with Brazilian outlet ‘Lance!‘, went on to explain:
”I think Robert was important and is important to us. I also think that, given his age and his career, he’ll live year by year. I think there comes a certain point in a career where we don’t make many plans for the future. I think he’s focused on this year. We are too, and we’ll see. As I said, he’s a player who depends much more on his will, how he feels, how he sees things. And we’ll see his progress throughout the year. And we’ll talk about that. Regarding Frenkie (De Jong), we’re in talks. I think we’ll reach an agreement. He’s an important player for us. I think he’s happy at Barcelona. We’re happy with him, too. So, I don’t think there will be any problems.”
