Barcelona considering Portuguese star’s loan amid AC Milan uncertainty

After having spent quite a productive last season on loan at FC Barcelona, the English forward Marcus Rashford was very hopeful of continuing at the Catalan club beyond his one-season loan stint. Reportedly, he was willing to significantly lower his wages to continue with the Blaugrana club.

But despite having a rather affordable purchase clause of €30 million, Barcelona opted not to keep him in their team. Instead, they paid €70 million to land Anthony Gordon, who also plays primarily on the left wing, from Newcastle United while also promising another €10 million in variables.

While Gordon is going to be a medium-long term bet for Barcelona, they can also consider bringing another player for the wing on a setup similar to Rashford’s signing. For this purpose, Mundo Deportivo reports that one player for whom they have made some inquiries is the Portuguese winger Rafael Leao.

With the arrival of Ruben Amorim on the AC Milan bench, the forward’s future at the Italian club is highly uncertain, as he is not a part of his compatriot’s plans. As a result, the Rossoneri club is looking to offload him, and are willing to let him leave for between €60-70 million, despite his release clause standing at €150 million.

The winger has performed quite well with the Portuguese national team in the World Cup, and he was the one who provided the cross that ended up in the winning goal in his side’s win over Croatia in the Round of 32. Still, the Blaugranes are in no way going to pay such an amount for the forward, but can consider taking him on loan, something that Milan would not be averse to as well.

Meanwhile, the Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and some Saudi sides are also interested in him. If Raphinha regains his fitness and stays at Barcelona for the next season, the incorporation of Rafael Leao would not really make a lot of sense, especially with Anthony Gordon also having joined recently.
