Four seasons ago, FC Barcelona were pulling different levers to build a competitive squad under Xavi Hernandez. They desperately needed a striker with a know-how of scoring goals and turned to Robert Lewandowski.

The Pole was in his early thirties, and there were concerns about how long he could contribute to the Catalan club. It is safe to say that Lewandowski has dispelled those fears and continues to score for Hansi Flick’s team.

Now, according to MARCA, Barcelona could repeat the trick and keep tabs on Bayern Munich superstar Harry Kane as a potential replacement for Lewandowski. The 37-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the summer.

Kane has been in scintillating form for the German giants this season, scoring for fun. He is said to have a release clause of around €65 million in his contract this summer that Barcelona might look to trigger.

Of course, a lot of this depends on returning to the 1:1 rule, but in terms of wages, Barcelona should have no problem if they get Lewandowski’s massive salary off the books. This could pave the way for the arrival of the Englishman.

Harry Kane is one of the best strikers of his generation and at the peak of his powers at the moment. He would be arriving at Barcelona at a similar age to Lewandowski and would be a better gamble than going for a developmental striker.

However, the 32-year-old is a season or two away from breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League records and might want to move back to England if he leaves the German giants. Let us see whether Barcelona can convince him to move to Spain as the next step in his career.
