FC Barcelona are within touching distance of being crowned the champions of La Liga for a second season in a row.

With Real Madrid dropping points in their latest game, Barcelona extended their lead at the top to 11 points by beating Getafe on Saturday, with five games left to be played.

Given the situation, Barça could be confirmed as champions as early as this weekend if they beat Osasuna on Saturday and Real Madrid drop points against Espanyol on Sunday.

If not, the next opportunity would come on 10 May, when Barcelona face Real Madrid at the Spotify Camp Nou.

La Liga trophy will be at the Spotify Camp Nou on Clasico day

Now, according to Catalunya Radio (h/t Mundo Deportivo), in both scenarios, Barcelona expect that the La Liga trophy would be presented to the team at the end of their match against Real Madrid.

The plan of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which has been communicated to Barcelona, is to present the trophy as soon as possible.

Historically, the presentation has taken place during the first home match after the title has been secured.

So, if Barcelona were to confirm the title on 10 May, they would still have another home fixture at the Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday 17 May against Real Betis, which could serve as the occasion for the ceremony.

However, the RFEF is considering breaking with tradition and allowing Barcelona to lift the trophy immediately after being crowned champions in the match against Real Madrid.

If the title is secured this Sunday, following a Barcelona victory against Osasuna and a Real Madrid slip vs Espanyol, Rafael Louzan, president of the RFEF, would travel to Barcelona on 10 May to present the trophy immediately after El Clasico.

The plans for the trophy parade are also underway as Flick & co. are set to become back-to-back Spanish champions.
