Barcelona’s 2-1 win against Real Valladolid meant the club have now extended their lead at the top to seven points.
Second-placed Real Madrid have a game in hand tonight, but this could be a tricky one against Celta Vigo, who are still fighting for a place in Europe.
With an El Clasico slated to be played on May 11, this promises to be a must-win game for Real Madrid if they are to remain alive in the title race.
As a matter of fact, Barcelona could claim the league title against Real Madrid at home next weekend if Los Blancos must drop points against Celta Vigo tonight.
The Catalans are currently top of the league table with 79 points, seven ahead of Real Madrid at 72. Both teams will have four games left to play once Real Madrid play out their game against Celta Vigo tonight.

However, if Los Blancos lose to Celta, they will remain at 72 with four games to play. Barcelona, therefore, can secure the title next weekend by beating Real Madrid and extending their lead to 10 points, with three games left to play.
This will enable Barcelona to seal the title next weekend itself. Even if Real Madrid draw against Celta Vigo tonight, they will have a nine-point cushion, which should be enough to seal the title given their far superior goal difference.
However, if Real Madrid win tonight, Barcelona would have to wait a little longer, even if they beat Real Madrid in El Clasico next weekend.
For now, though, the Barcelona team will focus on this midweek’s mega encounter against Inter Milan, with the Catalans requiring a victory away from home to seal a place in the Champions League final.
