La Liga giants Barcelona have this week been dealt something of a blow on the transfer front.

This comes amid the understanding that the Blaugrana’s pursuit of Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas has hit a sudden roadblock.

Defender Salinas is for his part widely understood to have been earmarked as a leading transfer target on the part of the Camp Nou brass with a view to next season.

Fresh off a starring campaign on the books of the aforementioned Racing in Spain’s 2nd tier, the 19-year-old is considered a player for present and future alike.

Barca, in turn, were hopeful of thrashing out a quickfire agreement over his signing, to anticipate the stiff competition for Salinas’ services.

But as alluded to above, this week, these hopes have been dented.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘According to Racing Santander, the player’s clause was 8 million euros, but it went to 16 when Racing were promoted to the First Division. For this reason, after their promotion, Racing asks for this amount from Barcelona.’

Deco and co. consider this new valuation to be too steep, with the deal therefore labelled as being ‘on standby’ as things stand.
