FC Barcelona had players away on international duty for the November break. It ended yesterday, and those players are now set to return to Hansi Flick’s squad to prepare for the game against Athletic Club this Saturday.

Most nations confirmed their place at the World Cup next year, with Spain securing qualification with a 2-2 draw last night. However, one player has joined Robert Lewandowski in having to take part in the play-offs in March.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen has joined the Pole in needing to play World Cup play-offs for Denmark in March after losing to Scotland in the final game of their group.

Denmark were in a good position going into the game against Scotland, but a 4-2 win for their opponents saw them slip to second. Christensen had a good game, even providing an assist, but the end result was not favourable.

Christensen has been suffering from physical issues since the beginning of last season. He has not been able to establish himself as a mainstay in Hansi Flick’s plans, and the Dane will be out of contract at the end of the season.

Having returned from injury and played the entire game for Denmark, Christensen will be hoping to step up and stay fit to contribute to Hansi Flick’s team in the coming weeks. We will have to wait and see how things play out.
