As France prepare to begin their World Cup campaign against Senegal, Jules Kounde finds himself with a chance to make a statement on football’s biggest stage.

One of the biggest challenges came from the emergence of Eric Garcia, whose performances at right-back provided Barcelona with a strong alternative and increased the competition for places.

As a result, Kounde was unable to establish the same level of consistency that had previously made him one of the team’s most dependable performers.

Despite recent rumours linking him with a possible move away from Camp Nou, Koundé has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to Barcelona.

Speaking during France’s World Cup preparations, he delivered a firm message regarding his future.

“I have a contract until 2030. It’s pretty clear in my mind. With the French national team, those kinds of things take a back seat,” he said.

“I’m focused on the competition until further notice. I’m at Barça and I hope to stay there.”

His comments were intended to end speculation and underline his desire to remain part of the club’s long-term project.
