Barcelona’s 2024/25 campaign had no less than a transformation. But halfway through the campaign, it appeared for a bit that the team was too over-reliant on their front three.
Lewandowski’s lion’s share of team goals was one of the indicators, which is why Hansi Flick was hard at work trying to find an alternative for the ageing forward.
The German found the answer in Ferran Torres, who stepped up during the second half of the campaign to end as the club’s third-highest scorer last season.
More often than not, Flick counted on Ferran Torres to make the difference in the latter half of games and he didn’t disappoint either.
Torres and Dani Olmo were primarily Flick’s go-to options when Robert Lewandowski used to be absent, and as things stand, their roles won’t change either.
According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona’s sporting planning for the 2024/25 season will see Olmo and Torres continue to play as the club’s backup strikers whenever Lewandowski is unavailable or rotated.

With Lewandowski staying for at least another season, the club are not expected to push for a new No. 9 this summer. However, he has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia next year.
The long-term vision is already taking shape with potential targets like Julian Alvarez being eyed for a future move.
But in the immediate term, Flick and the sporting staff are placing trust in Ferran and Olmo, both of whom have already proven they can deliver in central roles.
Barça see them as capable stopgap solutions while planning for a bigger move in 2026 – a strategy that may just work well if the team can indeed land a big fish in the market next summer.
