Things have not gone according to plan for FC Barcelona as far as their return to the Spotify Camp Nou is concerned.
Delays in construction and obtaining required licences and permits have meant that the club have had to constantly postpone their return to the hallowed turf after two years away.
The latest plan was for Barça to host Valencia in their first home game of the 2025/26 La Liga season at Camp Nou on 14 September.
That now seems unlikely, with Estadi Johan Cruyff being touted as the likeliest venue for the match. However, there is optimism within the club that the stadium can be reopened for the subsequent league game against Getafe on 21 September.
Despite that, SPORT now reports that Barcelona’s first home game in the UEFA Champions League, against PSG, is unlikely to take place at Spotify Camp Nou.
As previously reported, UEFA has granted Barça leeway to switch their home ground in the middle of the league phase, which is against protocols, owing to the special circumstances.
While Camp Nou is currently listed as the club’s home ground, UEFA will not authorise the stadium to host games unless the lateral stand is fully operational.

That seems highly unlikely to be ready by 1 October, when PSG visit. As such, the expectation is that the match will take place at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, in Montjuic.
This gives rise to a unique scenario wherein Barcelona will likely play their first three home games of the 2025/26 season in three different stadiums.
Indeed, as mentioned earlier, Estadi Johan Cruyff appears set to host the first of the three matches against Valencia on 14 September.
The Getafe match in the following week should see the Blaugrana return to Spotify Camp Nou.
But, given UEFA’s stricter requirements, the PSG game might not be played at Camp Nou and instead could take place at the Montjuic Stadium.
That, however, does not rule out Camp Nou hosting future Champions League home games at Camp Nou – as mentioned earlier, UEFA has allowed Barcelona the provision to switch later in the league phase.
