Robert Lewandowski was a key part of the FC Barcelona team that won all the big domestic titles last season, as he continued to showcase his elite goalscoring skills throughout the campaign.
But with the Polish striker now 37 and his contract set to expire at the end of the season, the club recognises that his era at the highest level of European football is coming to a close.
A move to Saudi Arabia, where he has been offered a lucrative deal worth around €100 million per year, is also being mooted.
With that in mind, Barça’s sporting department is already working on securing a long-term replacement. According to Fichajes, two names stand out on their shortlist: Karim Konate and Paris Brunner.
Konate, 21, plays for RB Salzburg and has already gained valuable experience in European competition. Considered a striker with significant room for growth, his development has been temporarily halted by a ligament injury, which Barcelona are monitoring closely before making any decision.
Brunner, meanwhile, is just 19 and currently with AS Monaco after coming through the ranks at Borussia Dortmund. Known for his physical strength and instinct in front of goal, he has quickly attracted attention as one of the most exciting young forwards in Europe.
For now, Barcelona are monitoring both players and several other options closely, and it remains to be seen which one they will ultimately opt for. What is certain, however, is that Lewandowski’s chapter at Camp Nou is drawing to a natural close, and the club is determined to ensure a smooth transition for the post-Lewandowski era.
