Barcelona midfielder Gavi will undergo surgery on a knee injury tomorrow.

The 21-year-old has been experiencing knee discomfort since last month, which has resulted in him missing games against Rayo Vallecano, Valencia, Newcastle United and Getafe.

After being placed under conservative treatment for weeks, Gavi is now required to undergo arthroscopy to ensure complete recovery.

The Spanish midfielder is expected to be sidelined for a further five to six weeks. A knee injury kept him out of action for nearly a year before he returned in October last year.

Barca have confirmed that Fermin Lopez has sustained a muscle injury and will be ruled out for three weeks.

The Spaniard picked up the knock during Barca’s 3-0 win against Getafe last night after going down in pain after the final whistle.

He is likely to miss the La Liga games against Oviedo, Real Sociedad and Sevilla, and the Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain next week.

Lopez’s absence is a setback for the Catalan giants as he has been a key cog for manager Hansi Flick. He scored a sensational double in the 6-0 win against Valencia.

Dani Olmo will have more onus in the number ten role after Lopez’s injury. Flick can also rely on Raphinha, Pedri, Marc Casado and Roony Bardghji as attacking midfield options.

Alejandro Balde has also been sidelined with a hamstring issue, while Lamine Yamal has missed the last three games after sustaining a groin injury on international break.

Barca will face Oviedo and Real Sociedad in back-to-back league games before hosting PSG in a crunch Champions League encounter.
