By signing Joan Garcia in the summer transfer window of 2025, FC Barcelona have secured the present and the future of their goalkeeping department.
Just six months into his tenure at the club, the 24-year-old has already proven his worth with some stunning performances and is going to play an important role in any success the Blaugrana enjoy in the years to come.
However, there are some doubts about the make-up of the rest of the goalkeeping department.
After all, Marc-Andre ter Stegen is out of favour despite having a contract until 2028 and is headed out on loan to Girona this month. Wojciech Szczesny’s contract runs until 2027 but contains an option for termination.
Inaki Pena, currently on loan at Elche, does not appear to be in the team’s plans despite inking a new contract until 2029 before leaving in the summer. Diego Kochen, an academy ace, is considered a bet for the future.
Given the situation, FC Barcelona have set their sights on Real Sociedad and Spain goalkeeper Alex Remiro as an option for the summer, reports Mundo Deportivo.
This comes after the Spaniard’s excellent display on Sunday night against Barcelona at the Reale Arena – something that hardly surprised the Catalans as they have been following him for some time and are aware of his qualities.

In fact, Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, showed interest on more than one occasion in the situation of the Spain international before the club signed Joan Garcia.
Last summer, Remiro’s release clause stood at €50 million, making it extremely difficult to prise him away from Real Sociedad.
Looking ahead to next summer, however, the scenario has changed. The goalkeeper will have only one year remaining on his contract, and his price is expected to fall below €10 million.
Barcelona’s clear bet, both for the present and the future, is Garcia. But the belief is that he could benefit from the presence of someone like Remiro competing for the spot, helping him level up.
Moreover, Remiro’s camp is also aware of this, and it would not represent a red line preventing him from signing for Barcelona.
However, as mentioned earlier, the Blaugrana already have several players competing for the No. 2 position in the goalkeeping department.
As such, they will need to sanction some departures before thinking of a move for Remiro, who recently praised Garcia.
