FC Barcelona ended the November international break three points behind Real Madrid, eager to close the gap and with the advantage of playing first on the matchday. On Saturday, the team marked their return to the Spotify Camp Nou with a victory.

A 4–0 win over Athletic Club put Barcelona level on points with their arch-rivals. Last night, Real Madrid took on Elche, and Eder Sarabia’s side held Los Blancos to a 2–2 draw in a controversial game.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s ideal weekend improved further with Madrid dropping two points. They came close to defeat, but refereeing controversy helped them at least salvage a draw.

Elche have been a genuine surprise package in La Liga this season. Last night, they took the game to Real Madrid, outplaying them with possession, intricate passing, triangles all over the pitch, and clear tactical superiority.

This leaves Real Madrid just one point ahead of Barcelona in La Liga. What was a five-point gap only a few weeks ago has now narrowed, and Hansi Flick’s team seems to be picking up momentum at the right time.

Next up, Barcelona host Alaves at Camp Nou, while Real Madrid face Girona away from home at Montilivi, and on paper, both teams will expect to take three points. Hansi Flick’s side must ensure they keep winning and put Xabi Alonso’s team under pressure to retain their lead.
