Real Madrid have a mountain to climb at the Santiago Bernabeu next week and have no one but themselves to blame for their situation.
Los Blancos conceded three goals to Arsenal in the first leg of their quarterfinal tie and struggled to take any chances of their own after a disastrous performance on all fronts.
Their chances in the Champions League thus appear low now, and the low level of hope that persists is only because of their history in the competition.
Barcelona and Brazil legend Rivaldo gave his thoughts on Los Blancos’ chances after the recently concluded Champions League encounter.,
He did declare Real Madrid’s chances of mounting a comeback to be low, but he refused to count out the kings of Europe.
“Although we know it’s difficult, nothing is impossible in football, especially when it comes to Madrid and the players they have. Real Madrid’s attack is powerful,” said Rivaldo.
“Sometimes, like in the last game, they don’t manage to score, but suddenly they score two or three goals in a row. It will be a great game. I think it’s not decided yet,” he added.
The legend was then asked about Carlo Ancelotti’s future and how likely it was that the Italian tactician would continue at Real Madrid after the current season, saying:
“If they are eliminated, I think there is a great possibility that Ancelotti’s cycle will end. We know that, at big teams like Madrid, when there is a negative result, it generates a difficult situation.”

“The fans begin to think that he is no longer so focused on Real Madrid and that he is thinking of being the coach of the Brazilian national team. Although this is a lie, if he does not deny it, it is in the air,” he added.
Finally, Rivaldo spoke about his compatriot, Vinicius Jr, who has had a steep falling off since his Ballon d’Or challenging run last season.
“He is the player who narrowly didn’t get the Ballon d’Or, but then managed to win FIFA The Best Player award, that is, the best in the world. Then the rumours about going to Arabia. The attention will always be on him,” he noted.
Elaborating on the Brazilian’s poor run of form, Rivaldo urged Vinicius to use the second leg against Arsenal as a platform to step up and prove his worth, saying:
“When he goes through a bad streak in some games and things are not going well, it is normal for criticism to appear.
“This match against Arsenal is an opportunity for him to show that he is alive, to show that he is the same player from last season and to make a difference in the moment of truth.”
“He is in control of the situation and must take advantage of this opportunity,” Rivaldo concluded on Vinicius.
