In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Barcelona are locked in a three-way battle for Bayern Munich ace Dayot Upamecano. It is understood that the Catalan club could face competition from Real Madrid and Liverpool in the race to land the French centre-back next year.

Upamecano’s Impressive Form In German Football This Season

Upamecano has enjoyed a solid campaign at the German club so far as he has put in a string of solid displays for them in the Bundesliga. The France international has participated in seven matches for the Munich giants this season across all fronts.

The 26-year-old has been a solid presence when defending inside his half and deserves credit for making six tackles, two blocks, five interceptions and seven clearances in the Bundesliga. He has also been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 91.4% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via fbref.com).

His current deal at the Allianz Arena will run out at the end of this campaign, which could open the door for Barcelona to sign him on a free transfer next summer.

Will Upamecano Be A Good Choice For Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick?

Upamecano is a tough-tackling defender who can scan the danger well to make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.

The French talent can even play his way out from the back. Standing at 1.86m, he is a strong presence in the air as well, but only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Barcelona manage to win the race for his services next year.

We can expect Upamecano to bring more bite and steel to Barca boss Hansi Flick’s backline. He is more than capable of nailing down a regular first-team spot at the Nou Camp.

At 26, Upamecano is about to enter his prime soon, which makes him a great choice for the Catalan giants to consider next year. All in all, Flick would be wise to go all out to get him on board this January or at the end of this campaign.
