Barcelona are determined to sign a new star striker this summer, as they prepare to replace the departing Robert Lewandowski. However, their efforts to bring in Julian Alvarez have been without success thus far, which is why they have been linked with alternative targets.
Joao Pedro is one player that Barcelona like, while there have also been reports stating that the Catalans hold an interest in Harry Kane. The 32-year-old, who is widely considered to be one of the best strikers in world football, could follow a similar path to the one Lewandowski took four years ago, although it’s one that he personally is not currently interested in.
According to Sport, Barcelona previously made contact with Kane’s representatives to gauge his interest in a possible summer move to the Spotify Camp Nou, but the response was clear: he wants to stay at Bayern.
Kane feels part of a winning project at Bayern, and although Barcelona are on a similar trajectory to the Bavarians, the Englishman does not see any need to make a move. He and his family are settled, and barring any major changes, he will stay at the Allianz Arena for at least one more season.
Kane may not leave in 2026, but there would be chances for an exit in 2027. His Bayern contract expires at the end of next season, and right now, the two parties are apart in their demands. The veteran number nine wants a three-year deal, whereas the club are only prepared to tie him down for an additional two years, until 2029.
It’ll be interesting to see whether this creates any sort of opening, but for now at least, there is little to no chance of Kane joining Barcelona. For Deco and co, this isn’t much of a loss, as their focus remains on Alvarez.
