One of the positions FC Barcelona are expected to prioritize in the next summer transfer window is centre-back, following the departure of Inigo Martinez to Saudi Arabia last summer, which left the Catalans with a noticeable gap in their defence.
Barcelona continue to monitor the market with a clear idea of the profile they are seeking. The club’s sporting department wants a left-footed centre-back, a profile highly valued by the coaching staff, particularly in a team that emphasizes building from the back.
While several potential targets have been linked with the club, no final decision has been made yet, as the choice will depend heavily on Financial Fair Play and the club’s ongoing economic planning.
As part of this process, SPORT reports that Barcelona have made initial enquiries regarding AS Roma centre-back Evan Ndicka. The Ivorian defender fits several of the requirements the club has set for a preferred signing.
The Ivorian fits the requirements the Blaugrana side has set for their preferred signing, and impresses particularly with his height, ball output, and his stronger left foot.
As things stand, the Catalans have made only some inquiries about him, and have not yet opened negotiations either with the player or his club. Meanwhile, sources close to the Italian club also say that they have not been contacted for the player, even though they have also not ruled out a sale next summer.
For now, Evan Ndicka has been only one of many names in the long list of center-backs being linked with Barcelona, and it remains to be seen which one of them, if any, would arrive at the Camp Nou next summer.
