The forward Ansu Fati was one of FC Barcelona players who spent the 2025-26 season away from the Blaugrana club, playing for the Ligue 1 side AS Monaco on a season-long loan. The Spaniard was looking to regain his form after several difficult years, and this loan stint ultimately proved to be a good episode in his career.

Although he was not a regular starter, the forward still scored 11 goals in the last season, and his performances were well up to the principality club’s expectations. As a result, they intend to exercise the €11 million, with a buyback clause, purchase option that they have on the player.

This operation is already well-advanced, and could have well been completed by now. However, as SPORT has reported, there is one barrier that is keeping this operation from being completed, i.e., the lack of an agreement about Fati’s wages.

The Spanish forward still has one year left on his contract with Barcelona, and his gross wages for the upcoming season as set to increase to €14 million from the €12 million he earned last season. This figure is beyond Monaco’s reach, and they are pushing Fati to reduce his wages, while the player is sticking to get what he would have gotten at the Blaugrana club.

To break this deadlock, either the player would have to lower is wages or the club would have to increase its offer. Meanwhile, another alternative that Monaco can take is to ask the Catalan club to reduce its fee so they can spend more on the forward’s wages.

One reason Barcelona can agree to such a setup is because they would ideally want to complete this operation and realize its income before the end of this financial year on 30th June. Hopefully, Ansu Fati would soon reach an agreement with Monaco, so all the involved parties can get their desired outcome from this operation.
