As FC Barcelona continue their pre-season preparations, uncertainty still lingers over whether the team will return to the Spotify Camp Nou in time for the upcoming season.

The renovation of the iconic stadium is progressing, but potential delays have prompted questions over possible backup plans.

Speaking on the matter, Barcelona mayor Jaume Collboni shed light on the situation, insisting that the city is working closely with the club.

Collboni confirmed that both the city council and the club are aligned when it comes to exploring alternatives, should construction not be completed in time.

“What we want is for Barcelona to be doing well,” the mayor said while speaking to Mundo Deportivo.

“I believe we’ve established very good cooperation with the club to find alternatives for the stadium. We are very happy with how things have progressed, and we will continue to collaborate in this approach,” he added.

While Barça are optimistic about returning to their home ground as scheduled, Collboni made it clear that the city would not bypass any regulatory requirements, even for the club.

“What’s happening is that we must comply with the regulations and enforce their application, regardless of who is carrying out the renovation work; it doesn’t matter if it’s a commercial establishment or a stadium,” he said.

“This is a regulated matter with technical requirements that must be met,” he added.

The mayor also clarified that Barcelona’s ability to host matches at Camp Nou will ultimately depend on whether the necessary technical permits are granted.

“We will follow the instructions of the technical experts at every moment regarding the permits that need to be granted,” Collboni added.

“I hope things go well and quickly, but it’s clear that we must adhere to the laws,” he concluded.

As it stands, Barça continue to target a September return to Camp Nou, but the club may need to explore alternatives, which could include extending the partnership with Montjuic.
