FC Barcelona are going to have up to seven midfielders competing for the three midfield spots in the upcoming season, and it remains to be seen what midfield setup Hansi Flick would opt for going into the next season.
One player who would be competing for a starting role in one of these three spots would be the youngster Marc Bernal, who fully recovered from his serious injury last season, and played some quality minutes for the Blaugrana team in the second half of the campaign.
For now, he would be looking forward to the start of the preseason, as he is not a part of the Spanish national team vying for the World Cup. But before this preseason, the midfielder attended a training camp for young children in his native town of Berga. During this event, he also appeared in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, during which he answered some interesting questions about his career.
However, one of the most compelling parts of this interview was him talking about the forward Julian Alvarez, who remains a point of contention between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. While the Catalan club continues to make efforts for his signing, the midfielder blessed his potential signing in the following words:
“Personally, I like him a lot. He’s a game-changing player and had a great season at Atlético de Madrid. Of course I’d like him here, but that’s not up to me. That decision belongs to the club, the president, Deco, and Flick.”
While Marc Bernal works towards the development of youth football in his native city, Julian Alvarez is competing for the World Cup, and is one of the main weapons in Lionel Scaloni’s arsenal as he looks to retain the World Cup title with the Argentina national team.
As a result, any resolution of the transfer operation would only arrive after the end of the World Cup. Meanwhile, Barcelona would have the chance to make their preparations for a significant offensive, and hopefully, they would be able to land their target this summer.
