The future of Marc Casado at Barcelona is no longer as secure as it once seemed, with the young midfielder now seriously weighing up a move away from the club ahead of the summer transfer window.

A recent report from AS suggests that the situation has evolved significantly in recent weeks. 

While Casado’s initial intention was to succeed at Barcelona, the reality of his reduced role under Hansi Flick is forcing a rethink.

As a result, the player is now open to moving to Saudi Arabia.

Casado has lost his place

The core issue lies in Barcelona’s overloaded midfield. Players like Frenkie de Jong and Pedri are considered automatic starters when fit, leaving limited opportunities for rotation. 

Add to that the return of Gavi and the rise of Marc Bernal, and the pathway into the starting XI becomes even narrower.

What makes the situation more concerning for Casado is the manager’s selection trend. 

In certain matches, Flick has opted to use Eric Garcia in midfield roles ahead of the La Masia product, a clear indication of where he currently stands in the pecking order.

This represents a sharp contrast to the beginning of the 2025/26 season. 

Back then, injuries to key midfielders handed Casado a consistent run in the team, and he showed flashes of composure and tactical discipline. 

However, once the squad returned to full strength, his involvement dropped noticeably, and with it, his momentum.

Saudi move on the table

Now, a potential move abroad is on the table. Saudi Arabia has emerged as a serious option, not just financially attractive, but also offering the promise of regular football.

Notably, interest is not limited to the Middle East, as several Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on his situation, which could provide a more competitive sporting alternative if he chooses to remain in Europe.

Statistically, Casado’s campaign reflects his fluctuating role. He has featured 29 times across competitions but has only managed one assist.

As a result of these events, Casado is considering the Saudi bid.
