When Hansi Flick arrived at Barcelona a couple of seasons ago, one of the first decisions he made was to make Marc Casado and Marc Bernal a key part of his first-team plans.
The duo were the pivots in Flick’s early games that season, but their partnership was cruelly cut short after just three games when Marc Bernal suffered an ACL injury.
With Frenkie de Jong also out injured at that point, Barça desperately needed a defensive midfielder to put his hand up and take responsibility, and that is what Casado did.
The former Barça Atletic captain’s first half-season under Flick was lights-out good. He was performing at such a high level that he received a call-up to Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad.
However, Casado’s importance slowly started to diminish once De Jong returned, and he struggled to find form, rhythm and continuity in the last season as well.
The La Masia graduate deserves regular minutes, which he will not get at Barça, and a sale seems like the logical solution for everyone involved this summer.
According to Tuttosport in Italy, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, superagent Jorge Mendes has offered Casado to AC Milan, during talks involving other players including Gonçalo Ramos.

The 22-year-old Barcelona midfielder is one of the names being considered by the Italian League club, while Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Monaco and Al-Hilal have also been linked with him.
Casado’s future at Barça seems to be coming to an end, and the Catalans are hoping to earn around €20 million to €30 million from a possible sale.
AC Milan are still waiting to sort their midfield situation out, with players like Youssouf Fofana emerging as sale candidates before committing to a deal for Casado.
A move to AC Milan would be a major step for Casado. Serie A would test his physical level, but his intensity and positional discipline could help him adapt.

For Barça, Mendes looking to drum up interest in his client is very helpful. More competition means more leverage, and that matters when the club want at least €20 million and preferably closer to €30 million.
Casado is a La Masia player, and losing academy midfielders always carries a certain sting, but this is a deal Barcelona will have to do.
The club need sales, and Casado is one of the few players who can generate a meaningful fee without breaking the first-team structure.
Milan being offered the 22-year-old midfielder doesn’t mean that a deal is close. However, should they submit a bid, it would give Casado the opportunity to go to a club steeped in tradition to continue his career.
It remains to be seen whether the Rossoneri make a serious push to sign Casado from Barcelona this summer.
